1989. Seven young doctors prioritized service to the society over personal earning and setup BAVP’s Dr. Hedgewar Hospital. Their aim was to cause social transformation through healthcare.

Newborn survives rare Fetal Cytokine Storm through prompt intervention

A groundbreaking case emerged with a baby facing post-COVID complications due to a fetal cytokine storm. Born to a mother who had COVID 45 days prior, the infant suffered hematuria and renal vein thrombosis. Swift medical intervention, including steroids and blood thinners, saved the baby’s life. Now 10 months old, the child is thriving and healthy.

Janhavi Kharche, a 4-year-old, faced a critical situation after a knee injury led to a severe infection. The infection spread to her leg and lungs, causing septic arthritis and pulmonary embolism. Struggling to breathe, she underwent collaborative treatments, including knee surgery, blood thinners for clots, and 10 days of ventilatory therapy. Thanks to the dedicated PICU team, Janhavi recovered, bringing a smile to her parents’ faces as she left the hospital.

SSMH's team conquers septic shock, bringing patient back from the brink

A 60-year-old patient, unconscious and unresponsive, was rushed to Siu ka pha Hospital’s Emergency wing. Emergency CT Brain revealed a substantial blood clot deep within the brain. Dr. Arijit Chakraborty and his team opted for an innovative approach, choosing endoscopic surgery over traditional open surgery to minimize trauma and speed up recovery. The critical and challenging procedure, performed through a small 3.8 cm incision, successfully removed the blood clot caused by a severe brain stroke. The patient recovered within the expected timeframe.

Treating Coarctation of Aorta in adult congenital heart disease is challenging, with risks including aortic rupture. Dr. Hedgewar Hospital’s cardiac center is now proficient in such complex cases. Over the past two years, they have successfully performed numerous procedures, including angioplasty. A 22-year-old from a rural area fully recovered, as his main artery’s blood flow normalized. Dr. Mahesh Deshpande credits divine intervention for successful outcomes in these challenging cases, all provided free of cost.

Siukapha Hospital's modern approach saves adult congenital heart patient.

A 58-year-old, Mr. Kanu Chanda from Amguri, Jorhat district, sought help at Siukapha Hospital for chronic abdominal pain. Previous consultations indicated gall bladder issues. Imaging revealed potential malignancy, leading to referral to SSMH. Under the Ayushman Bharat Govt. scheme, laparoscopic surgery, despite challenges, was successful. While malignancy is suspected, the histopathology report is awaited. Mr. Chanda was discharged in good condition on the 2nd post-operative day.

ONGC CSR initiative facilitates advanced healthcare in remote regions.

Mr. Biswajit Gogoi, a staff member at SSMH, Assam, arrived two months ago with a complex medical condition including septic shock, metabolic encephalopathy, acute kidney injury, diabetic ketoacidosis, and dyselectrolytemia. Intubated and on mechanical ventilation, he faced significant challenges, requiring surgery and a 24-day hospitalization. The dedicated team, led by Dr. Ashish, Dr. Joydeep, and various healthcare professionals, worked tirelessly. Mr. Gogoi, supported by charity funds, has now recovered, thanks to the advanced treatment facilitated by ONGC’s CSR initiative and BAVP’s efforts in the remote and neglected area. This success is a testament to Siu ka pha hospital’s commitment to excellence in healthcare.
